A typical application for our PSindex
controls package as a standard application, is it's use to control
this small press-feeder machine, used to index coiled, flat-stock
metal into a stamping press or shear.
The primary use of the machine is
to perform all of the manufacturing tasks to index-feed a
siequence of measured pieces of metal, into the input end of a
stamping press at high accuracy & at high speed. This
particular machine design is one of a series of sizes manufactured
by our OEM customer. The controller shown covers motors sizes from
30"# to 90"# at the customer's desired performance (hit
rate) while meeting NEC requirements for powering such systems at
120v. a.c. Machines of the smallest size, in this series are
capable of feeding short parts at 900+ hits/min, 50% duty-cycle,
+/- 1/1000" accuracy over very long runs.
The machine uses one brushless
servo motor to drive the feed-rolls under servo control. There are
various I/O functions which can be implemented as needed by simply
connecting cables to appropriate I/O terminals. The feeder is
"slaved" to the press operation via connection of the
"feed-initiate" input to the appropriate signal from the
press control system. The system is provided with it's own
terminal for operator set-up & with a Jog-pendant for manual
feeding & locating of feed-stock.
The machines are constructed by our
customer using his own design as is appropriate for such
equipment. Standard, heavy-duty rolls, sprockets & structuraly
fabricated metal parts are used for all of the basic machine
construction. The system was designed for ease of construction,
set-up, installation & maintince with all of the control &
drive electronic equipment located in one enclosure, close to the
machine & connected via plug-in cables.
